THE ONION SELLER

The year is 1946, the year after the Second World War

ended with the loss of over 85 miilion lives. A small

French boy (Henri) is earning his living by selling his

strings of onions.

It is a time of great upheaval in Europe where there

are many homeless families and orphans. Henri is always

cheerful and full of enthusiasm for everything that he does.

Behind this mask is a dark and terrible secret, for Henri

is Jewish and, together with the whole of his family,

was imprisoned in the Nazi Death Camp of Auschwitz.

His mother, father and sister are dead and Henri himself

is only alive as he was one of twin boys. Twins were greatly

prized for experimentation by Dr Mengele, Auschwitz’s

‘Angel of Death’ - now Henri’s health is failing.
